India Day to take place Sunday in Andover

The India Association of Greater Boston is scheduled to celebrate India Day 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept 8, at the Collins Center, Andover High School, 80 Shawsheen Road.

The event will feature Indian food, musical performances, classical, folk, and Bollywood dances, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of India. Admission is free.

The celebration, a tradition for more than two decades, was originally scheduled to take place on Aug. 18 at the Hatch Shell in Boston. However, it was rescheduled in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, which prompted city officials to require additional security at large public events in Boston.

If the India Association of Greater Boston had elected to hold the event in Boston this year, the group would have lost more than $27,000, according to a statement released by organizers.

Musical performers will include Berklee School of Music, LearnQuest Academy of Music, and New England Hindi Manch. One World Cuisine, a Boston restaurant group that specializes in Indian food, will have an array of specialties for diners to purchase.
