Grocery shopping can be a pain – and especially if you’re strapped for time, it can become an inconvenience. That’s why delivery services have popped up both online and through local stores that allow shoppers to pick out what they want, then have their groceries delivered right to their home.
And starting today, a popular Greater Boston grocery store is expanding their delivery service into the Boston Proper area. Roche Bros., a suburb-based market, currently delivers to its immediate surrounding areas for those who can’t come to the store and shop. Now, Boston neighborhoods including Fenway, Back Bay, South End, Financial District, West End, North End Beacon Hill, the Waterfront, South Boston and Prudential can get their popular produce, perishables and more delivered to their kitchens.
Roche Bros.’ delivery stands out from online and other delivery options as the store offers the same deals and special prices that one would find in store, as well as the option to use paper coupons. The service, offered from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., is free for first-time customers in Boston. After that, the delivery charge is $9.95 per order, with no minimum or maximum order cost or fuel charges.
With plans to open a store in Downtown Crossing next year, Roche Bros. CEO Rick Roche believes this is a good way to introduce the grocery store to the downtown Boston area. He said in an official release:
We are thrilled to be expanding our delivery area to residents in the Boston neighborhoods, especially in advance of our new flagship store to open in Downtown Crossing. This is a great way for our neighbors to get to know us. We’ve been a part of the community since our Roslindale store opened in 1952, but this is the first time we’ve offered our Home Delivery program to our future neighbors downtown.
To get the groceries from the store to you, Roche Bros. employees sign a “picker’s pledge,” meaning they promise to carefully pick the groceries as if it were for their own families, then deliver the food in a climate controlled truck. And when they say they’ll deliver to your kitchen, they mean it – even if it involves multiple flights of stairs.
