Greater Boston leases space in Hopkinton
Bret O’Brien of Greater Boston Commercial Properties in Marlborough recently completed a leasing spree in the Hopkinton Technology Park where it represented O’Brien Investment Partners LLC in 40,500 square feet between seven leases over a span of 10 months: 100B South St., 6,000 square feet to Gentle Giant Ventures LLC; 12 South St., 5,000 square feet to Anachemia Mining LLC; 3 Ave. C, 3,000 square feet to Alkras Holdings LLC; 5 Ave. C, 3,000 square feet to Phosphorex Inc.; 3 Ave. D, 3,000 square feet to Digi New England LLC; 12 Ave. E, 10,000 square feet to The Boston Athletic Association; and 4-6 Ave. E: 10,500 square feet to HPC LLC. Greater Boston Commercial Properties has achieved rents corresponding to the asking rates in the park while filling two thirds of the vacancy resulting from departing tenants who had left 64,750 square feet needing to be filled. With now only 24,250 square feet of available space, the 235,500 square foot park is now 90 percent occupied. The last vacancies consist of one 12,000-square-foot flex/warehouse unit, two 5,000-square-foot manufacturing units and two smaller office units.
Newton’s Karyopharm expands its global presence
Karyopharm Therapeutics Inc., a Newton-based clinical-stage pharmaceutical company, has expanded its operational footprint with a wholly owned European subsidiary and appointed Ran Frenkel, an international executive with experience managing European clinical operations and regulatory affairs activities within the biopharmaceutical industry, as executive vice president of worldwide clinical development. Frenkel will be responsible for managing the new subsidiary, Karyopharm Europe GmbH, which will be headquartered in Munich, Germany, and provide the corporate structure necessary to support Karyopharm’s expanded clinical and regulatory activities in Europe, according to a company press release. National Grid receives ‘Employer of Year’ award
A statewide advocacy coalition of business, labor, community and workforce development groups has honored National Grid with its “Employer of the Year” award. The Workforce Solutions Group, which advocates for skills training and employment for low and moderate income individuals, recognized National Grid during its Workforce Champion Awards ceremony at the 5th Annual Massachusetts Jobs and Workforce Summit held recently at the Devens Common Conference Center. “The company is making a significant impact enhancing workforce development,” said Kathie Mainzer, director of the Workforce Solutions Group. “We commend National Grid’s commitment to hiring and training women, people of color, veterans and those with disabilities.” National Grid is a London-based electricity and gas company with its U.S. headquarters in Waltham.
Council to present ‘Defined Contribution Plan Boot Camp’
The New England Employee Benefits Council presents “Defined Contribution Plan Boot Camp” on Nov. 6. The half-day program will provide an overview of Defined Contribution (DC) retirement plan designs, administration, trends and compliance and is appropriate for both entry-level professionals in employee benefits, human resources and related fields, and serves as a refresher course for more experienced professionals.
