Kaplan Construction Completes Library Renovations at Boston College

BOSTON — Kaplan Construction, a general contractor and construction management firm providing comprehensive building programs to commercial, healthcare, multi-family, worship, institutional, and historic rehabilitation/adaptive reuse clients across Greater Boston, announced that it has completed two fast-track summer renovation projects for Boston College. The project was initiated and completed in less than three months in order to accommodate students upon their return in September.

Kaplan Construction worked on two projects over the summer at the BC O’Neill Library, one of the center points of the college’s campus. Over the course of three months, Kaplan completed renovations at the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE). Designed by Lavallee Brensinger Architects (LBA), the two-phase project answered the school’s request for a well-located and attractive place for faculty to collaborate as well as to bring together staff members who were previously dispersed in different departments. The library was occupied during construction and Kaplan did much of its work after-hours to avoid disrupting students and staff.

According to Boston College, the goal of the CTE is to provide support for faculty in identifying and implementing innovative best practices in teaching. The CTE will bring together existing campus resources for academic technology and faculty professional development into a single location.

“Our part of the project went great, we always knew in advance of work that would impact us as Kaplan always kept us in the communication chain, and the on-site project staff was also professional and responsive to our daily needs,” said Lyn Goode, manager of business and administrative services at Boston College. “Our new renovated space looks great and is being received well by the students and staff who are using it.”

BR+A Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering on the project.

During this time, Kaplan Construction also renovated the main circulation desk and reconfigured the back office for increased efficiency and functionality.
