American Consumer Credit Counseling Receives $22,500 Grant from Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation to Support Housing Counseling Program

American Consumer Credit Counseling announced today that the industry-leading non-profit organization has received a $22,500 grant from the Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation to support the organization’s ongoing housing counseling services. This funding will allow ACCC to help 300 additional families in underserved communities throughout Greater Boston and Central Massachusetts prepare for homeownership through financial education, counseling, and debt management.
“We thank Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation for its support and continued efforts to ensure that every resident of the Commonwealth has access to the education they need to become smart homeowners,” said Steve Trumble, president and CEO of ACCC. “Large numbers of low-to-moderate income-households are still facing foreclosures and rising rental rates. These funds will help promote homeownership, strengthening the community and offering families long-term housing stability.”
This funding comes as a recent report from the Census Bureau indicated homeownership across the country fell to the lowest point in more than 19 years. And according to the National Association of Realtors, the share of first-time buyers was 29 percent in September for the third straight month, compared with about 40 percent historically.
“Homeownership is a major milestone for most consumers, but it can be an extraordinarily complex and financially straining process,” continued Trumble. “This program will provide families with direct access to pre-purchase counseling in order to prepare their finances for homeownership.”
The $22,500 grant will support ACCC’s housing counseling pre-purchase program to aid Greater Boston and Central Massachusetts low-to-moderate-income residents. The funding will provide ACCC the opportunity for added outreach in delivering pre-purchase counseling in order to guide clients towards preparing for homeownership and credit worthiness.
Through this grant, ACCC will be able to help tackle the need, in both the long-term and the short-term, for affordable housing in these low income communities. The housing counseling program will serve to strengthen the community by reversing negative effects of previously vacant, troubled properties, and growing community support and programming, creating a strong base in these neighborhoods.
