Greater Boston Cities Ranked America’s Smartest

BOSTON (CBS) – Which city in America holds the highest share of educated people in their workforce?

According to Forbes online, it’s the “Boston-Cambridge-Newton metro area,” making the cluster of cities the top ranked on the magazine’s list of the smartest cities in the nation.

Forbes looked at the number of residents with bachelor’s degrees from 2000 to 2013 within 380 of the nation’s largest cities to determine their findings.
Nearly 45 percent of residents in Boston, Cambridge and Newton in 2013 are college-educated, a 32 percent increase since 2000, the report found.

Pittsburgh, Pa. came in second with a 32 percent college-educated population in 2013, an 8 percentage point increase since 2000.

Cities in the Silicon Valley ranked third.
