Coupland left with mixed emotions

Golfer Dave Coupland will be appearing on the European Tour next season.

The final two days of Qualifying School didn’t go to plan for the Bostonian, who was aiming to earn his card for the continent’s top competition.

However, he did enough to book a place at a handful of the tour’s events, as well as gaining a full card for next year’s Challenge Tour.

After a nailbiting wait in Girona last week, Coupland made the cut to go through to the final stage of Q School after four rounds in Spain.

That meant that an improved showing over the final two rounds could see him earn his card, if he was to finish in the top 25.

However, things didn’t work out that way as he shot rounds of 75 and 74 on the PGA Catalunya Resort’s par 72 course.

“You always look back on those poor shots and think ‘if that had gone in then I could have been in the top 25’,” reflected Coupland.

However, he was left with mixed emotions as he also looked back on the positives of the past 12 months.

“All in all, I’ve played a lot of good golf and exceeded all my expectations,” he added.

“My target at the start of the year was to keep my card.

“Now I’m looking forward to next year.

“I’ve learned a lot and that will make me better.”

Coupland’s best round of the six was a 68.

By the end of play on Thursday, Coupland (pictured) was in 72nd place, with an overall score of +4.
