BOSTON (AP) GT;GT; A new report from an advocacy group finds that Latinos are not well represented in positions of power in city government in Boston, Somerville and Chelsea.
The Boston Globe reports the study, commissioned by the Greater Boston Latino Network, is to be released Tuesday.
It finds that in Boston, where one in six residents are Latino, only one Hispanic serves in Mayor Martin Walsh’s 13-member cabinet and only 7 percent are represented as department heads or appointees to boards and commissions. Walsh was scheduled to join community leaders Tuesday to discuss the report.
The report said that in Somerville, where 10 percent of the population is Latino, Hispanics make up 2 percent of leadership positions an in Chelsea, where the population is 60 percent Latino, representation in top city positions is 14 percent.
