Hanover business owners say business not too far off from the norm, despite …

Throughout the wintry weather that has consumed Hanover for a large portion of the last two months, many downtown businesses say the forecasts haven’t affected their profits.

“It’s normal to take a downturn during this time of year,” said Don Hamme, assistant manager of Clarks Bostonian Outlet. “That’s how it works for strip malls and locations with an outside view.”

Clarks Bostonian was one of a handful of downtown businesses open on Thursday morning during the height of the snowstorm. Subway, Royal Farms, Boost Mobile and The Party People were also among some of the downtown businesses welcoming customers through their doors, with only The Party People expecting to close its doors early.

“I’m glad for anyone that comes in my store today, but it’s not that safe to travel,” said Mary Ann Hawk, owner of The Party People. “I didn’t expect to see anyone.”

Representatives from Boost Mobile, Clarks Bostonian Outlet and The Party People said it’s normal to see a decrease in business during this time of year, with an expected increase in revenue coming by the end of the month.

“With everything going on downtown, I don’t see how any business won’t benefit when the weather cooperates,” Hamme said.

Boost Mobile’s store manager David Alvarez expected foot traffic today, despite the weather. He feels that having a store where there is a specific need helps with the wintry weather.

“There’s a need for phones 100 percent of the time,” Alvarez said. “We want to be here to help.”
