House Speaker: Raise Minimum Wage to $10.50

House Speaker Bob DeLeo on Thursday released his plan to raise the state's minimum wage to $10.50 an hour.DeLeo, a Democrat from Winthrop, detailed his proposal in a speech to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, according to the Associated Press.The wage hike would be phased in, according to the AP:The minimum wage would jump from $8 an hour to $9 on July 1It would go to $10 in 2015It would rise again to $10.50 in 2016The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25 an hour. Greater Bostonians Lack Confidence in Housing Market

On average, Greater Bostonians aren't as confident as the average U.S. resident when it comes to diving into local housing markets, a new Zillow report found. Overall, the Zillow Housing Confidence Index among Greater Boston residents is 63.4, which is just below the national average of 63.7. "In other words," Cory Hopkins of Zillow said in an email, "residents of Greater Boston are a bit less confident in the local housing market than residents nationwide, and less confident than residents in 11 of the 20 large metro areas analyzed." Massachusetts House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo Thursday proposed gradually raising the state’s minimum wage from $8 to $10.50 an hour by the middle of 2016, brightening prospects for a wage hike to become law this year.
