Ayanna Pressley was elected in 2009, becoming the first African-American woman to serve on the Boston City Council. She founded and chairs the Committee on Women Healthy Communities which focuses on bringing stability to families and communities, reducing violence, and fighting poverty. Aereo Inc., an Internet-based service that unnerves major broadcasters by letting subscribers in Greater Boston and other urban areas watch TV broadcasts on such devices as iPhones and iPads, said it has just raised $34 million in Series C financing to support rapid nationwide expansion.
