Gambling panel formally OK’s new Revere casino vote

The state gambling commission this morning formally approved a waiver for Mohegan Sun and the city of Revere to permit another casino referendum in the city, probably in February. The waiver lifts one element of a year-end deadline for final casino resort applications, and allows a Mohegan Sun casino plan at Suffolk Downs to move ahead in the contest for the Greater Boston resort casino license. The waiver applies only to the new referendum vote; the company must still submit all other documentations and drawings to support its bid by Dec. 31. The waiver comes in response to a split vote for an Continue reading >>>

Panel Forges Ahead With Boston Olympic Plans

Leading a commission to explore the feasibility of hosting the 2024 summer Olympics in Greater Boston, Suffolk Construction Chairman and CEO John Fish on Wednesday said planners should be creative in thinking about how to address housing and transportation needs. "What about a gondola? Maybe we go up instead of down and build something temporary," Fish said after meeting with the commission, using the idea as an example of outside-the-box thinking he says is necessary in planning for the Olympics. Fish also told commissioners that building a 16,000-person Olympic Village and a dining hall Continue reading >>>

Globe Santa promises a present for every child

The holidays should be a time for families to gather and celebrate together. But for many in the Boston area, the Christmas season only reinforces the need that they feel. It is this need that Globe Santa has been addressing since 1956. So far, the organization has received calls for help from the families of over 45,000 children in Greater Boston, a number that, thankfully, is lower than last year. With a week left to go before Christmas, Globe Santa had raised a little more than half of the estimated $1.1 million needed to give gifts to every child on its list, with more coming in every hour. Snowy Commute Raises Questions, Complaints Across Boston Area

Steve Roche, of Walpole, Mass., shovels snow Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013. (Steven Senne/AP) Tonight’s commute home is almost guaranteed to be better than last night’s. Yesterday’s snow storm lasted through the evening commute, snarling traffic across the Greater Boston area. Many of you were stuck in cars inching along snowy roadways or diverted because of accidents or waiting in the cold for MBTA trains and buses — some of which never came. So when we got to work this morning, the Radio Boston crew compared notes about how many hours it took us all to get home. And Continue reading >>>

Gift Ideas for Greater Boston Real Estaters

The gift for any seller is obvious: They've been asking every holiday ad infinitum for a dream price for their dream home. Pick it up before someone else beats you to it. For the myriad of Boston developers putting up high-end apartment buildings, lots of long-term renters is a great gift idea. A few Green Line stops for the City of Somerville would also be a wicked awesome present. Some say Somerville is getting Green Line stops on its own, but that rumor has been going on so long (since 1990) that it's approaching holiday urban myth status. And how cool would it be to get them before New Continue reading >>>
