Boston Magazine Ranks Reading Schools in Greater Boston’s Top 50

Boston Magazine recently released its ranking of school districts in the Greater Boston area, and Reading Public Schools made an appearance in the Top 50.Reading was in at No. 50, to be exact, while nearby schools in the area were slightly further down on the list. North Reading came in at No. 60, Wilmington was ranked No. 84 and Woburn was No. 113 in the list, which was topped by No. 1 Dover.The magazine ranked 147 districts in Greater Boston in its annual “Best Schools” edition, which hit newsstands last week. Blood drive honors 9/11 victims

With the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks approaching, the Greater Boston chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is sponsoring four blood drives this month to honor 9/11 victims. The first takes place Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Victory Assembly of God, 67 High Plain St., in Sharon. Additional drives are planned at the Canton Public Library, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, and at Fenway Park and Faneuil Hall on Sept. 11. Residents of region bullish on Boston as city chooses next mayor, poll finds

Almost 90 percent of residents in Eastern Massachusetts believe the city has improved over the past two decades, according to the poll, which surveyed a region of 3.3 million living inside Interstate 495. People said they feel safe in Boston, race relations have improved, and the city is better because Boston Harbor is cleaner; the Big Dig buried the expressway; and the development of the Seaport injected vibrancy into a once-forlorn stretch of waterfront.

Annual Walk for Hospice of the North Shore is Sept. 22

The 26th annual Walk for Hospice of the North Shore Greater Boston will take place on Sunday, Sept. 22, starting from St. John’s Preparatory School, 72 Spring St., Danvers. Registration is at 8 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 8:45 a.m. The walk steps off at 9 a.m. The 3-mile walk raises funds to provide hospice care to those in need throughout North Shore and Greater Boston communities. Home sales shoot up in Massachusetts

According to the Boston Globe, home sales in Massachusetts and the Greater Boston area are back to boom-time levels, with July showing the best results since 2006. Nearly 6,000 homes changed hands across the state in July. That's the most hectic month for sales since June 2006, the Boston-based real estate data firm and publisher reports. However, Bay State home prices, after rising 12% through the first six months of the year, took a break in July. The median home price in July was $349,000, down slightly from $350,000 in June.
