Heavy Rain, Power Outages Hit Massachusetts

BOSTON — Parts of Greater Boston picked up more than 5 inches of rain between midday Wednesday and midday Thursday, the National Weather Service said, as a nor’easter moves through. The torrential downpours left deep puddles of standing water on many Massachusetts roads, prompting closures, and making for a slow Thursday morning commute. Meterorologists warn: Expect high winds, heavy rains all day

China CNR Stock Surges on $567 Million Subway Deal

China CNR Corp. shares surged by as much as 9.9 percent in Shanghai trading after the official Xinhua News Agency reported the trainmaker won a contract to provide trains for the greater Boston subway system. The stock climbed 5.1 percent to 6.38 yuan as of the city’s 11:30 a.m. trading break, while CNR’s Hong Kong-listed shares rose as much as 4 percent to an intraday record.
