Walmart gives Boston Children’s Hospital $779000

The philanthropic arm of Walmart Stores Inc. said Friday it will donate $779,000 to Boston Children’s Hospital, the latest in a series of generous donations to area charities that could bolster the Arkansas retail chain’s local reputation after several failed attempts to expand in the Boston market. Since the beginning of the year, the Walmart Foundation has donated more than $900,000 to Greater Boston charities, including $50,000 to the Greater Boston Food Bank and $25,000 to Boston Medical Center. BOSTON -- Massachusetts business leaders are launching a program intended to connect employers with military veterans returning from overseas deployment or active duty. The "Boots to Business" initiative will benefit some of the nearly 13,400 veterans who showed up for services at the state’s career centers last year. As the U.S. war in Afghanistan winds down, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce is launching an initiative to connect companies with veterans returning home to a weak job market.
