Guest Columnist, Self-Loathing Bostonian, Listicle-Liker

Say what you will about Boston, but as people who’ve lived here most of our lives and in very few other places around the world, and/or spent a couple years here in college and never left a square mile radius of the dorm, I think we can all agree that it’s inarguably the greatest city on the planet. There are so many little distinctive things about Beantown, as we all definitely call it. Things here just aren’t the same as they are anywhere else. From Harvard Square to Faneuil Hall to the Back Bay and almost nowhere else in between, there’s a reason they call it the Hub of the Universe. Continue reading >>>

"We are very happy to say today that we have a deal with the City of Boston," said Kevin Brown, the Mohegan chairman. "The Mohegan Tribe has a long history of being good neighbors in New England. The city would also receive $30 million over 10 years for capital improvements in East Boston Continue reading >>>

Boston-Bred EPA Chief Tears into The New York Times

So it’s hardly a surprise that she decided to pen a memo this week attacking The New York Times when the paper wrote what she thought was an inaccurate article about the EPA and its role in writing new, tough pollution regulations. The Hill reports: In the memo, McCarthy praised EPA staff for securing a “dozen major victories in the Supreme Court” while crafting the “historic” carbon pollution limits for existing power plants. “Unless you ask the New York Times,” McCarthy quipped. “According to an article from Monday, you just cut and pasted a particular [non-governmental Continue reading >>>

Sweetheart Deal: Casino Gambling, East Boston, And Mohegan Sun

So, call me jealous since I live in the Back Bay and not Eastie, but I don’t get why it’s such a great thing that Mayor Marty Walsh has shaken down Mohegan Sun for $18 million a year to hand over to just one neighborhood for “improvements” when frankly, everyone in Greater Boston is going to be affected by a casino in either Revere or Everett. It’s more of the bizarre tribalism fostered by all of Boston’s byzantine rules and regulations that divide our city by neighborhoods. Even the parking sticker system is an anachronism. You live in Eastie but you can’t park Continue reading >>>
