Coast Guard's Joe Rizzardi was honored Wednesday by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston with their weekly Gold Helmet Award. Because the next mayor will inherit a city whose population is only one-seventh of its metropolitan area and whose future will be largely determined by regionwide forces, the new administration’s efforts to expand Boston’s economy cannot end at the city limits. College students and recent graduates now have a much easier way to find internships at Boston-area businesses: a new website that collects posted internships and displays them in one location. InternHub.com, a free website launched Wednesday, allows students to browse both paid positions and those for college credit. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced that Veronica Carlino has been hired as a new Assistant District Attorney in the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. Raynham woman helps feed a half-million people

Fresh lettuce, collard greens, onions, corn and potatoes. Not necessarily the kind of fare you’d expect to find in a food pantry grocery bag, but Raynham resident Cheryl Schondek is setting her sights high as she works hard to help feed more than half a million hungry residents across eastern Massachusetts. “We’ve acquired 47 million pounds of food so far this year and 25 percent of that was fresh produce. Paulson leads fight to end Medicare observation status

A shout-out today for Diane Paulson, senior attorney for the Medicare Advocacy Project at Greater Boston Legal Services. She has been leading the local effort to change Medicare's use of hospital "observation status," which has left some seniors with large bills to pay for rehabilitation therapy. Somerville football team’s comeback bid fall short against Cambridge

For the second week in a row, the Somerville football team rallied from a 20-0 deficit Friday night -- only to fall painfully short in its comeback bid. The most recent instance came September 27 against Greater Boston League rival Cambridge, a 28-26 loss at Dilboy Stadium.
