By Alex Parker, Globe Correspondent Upon seeing hundreds upon hundreds of Chiquita Banana boxes, you can’t help but get the Chiquita Banana theme song running through your mind: “I’m Chiquita banana and I’ve come to say, bananas have to ripen in a certain way.” But the boxes aren’t filled with bananas. They’re filled with food that will be distributed through the Greater Boston Food Bank with the help of the Bay Village Neighborhood Association’s volunteer initiative. About a year ago, Bay Village Neighborhood Association Social Committee member Caitlyn Bransfield decided Continue reading >>>

Op-ed pick: Lehane says bombers messed with the wrong city

Posted at 4:26 PM on April 17, 2013 by Eric Ringham On Tuesday, we aired an interview that Kerri Miller recorded last week with author Dennis Lehane, whose latest novel is "Live By Night." We Are All Boston

No travel-writing today.   Today I  honor and celebrate Greater Boston, its heroes, its heart, its strength. Living in the Boston area, I know a lot of people who have run the Boston Marathon,  who go to watch the runners come in, who celebrate the day—which is also Patriots Day here—in Boston.  I’ve been among them.  Fortunately everyone I know personally came home safely on Monday, after a despicable act of cowardice struck a peaceful, internationally celebrated event. Not so for Martin Richard, an 8-year old child killed in Monday’s cowardly act of violence.  Not so for Continue reading >>>

What Boston Means To America

As a city, Boston is at the crux of this country's past, present and future. This was brought home on April 15 — Tax Day, Patriots Day, Marathon Day — when two deadly bombs exploded on historic Boylston Street near the finish line of the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. The tragic blasts occurred so close to the Boston Public Library that the building — home to the personal book collection of Founding Father John Adams — is included in the crime scene. The bombs struck at the very heart of the heart of America. Perhaps as much as any place in the country, Boston is an anchor thread Continue reading >>>
