Medford High Cheerleaders win Greater Boston League title

They're so good they're scary. The Medford Mustang Cheerleaders won the Greater Boston League title during its annual Spooky Halloween Cheer/GBL Tournament, Sunday, Oct. 21, at Medford High. The annual spook-tacular drew a crowded field of over 27 teams competing in six different divisions. Medford out-scored second place finisher Malden High, 73-68.8, to capture the GBL crown. Norton selectmen no fans of United Nations

The United Nations was founded in 1945 and the anniversary of the day on which the UN charter came into force is observed each year on Oct. 24. In Norton however, the town will not be celebrating United Nations Day this month. Selectmen said, “no” when it came to accommodating a request from the United Nations Association of Greater Boston to recognize Oct. 24 as United Nations Day. “This organization might have been great after WWII but it no longer serves a purpose,” said selectman Vice Chairman Robert Kimball. TELL US: Should Local Officials Recognize United Nations Day?

In a recent letter to the Norton Board of Selectmen, the United Nations Association of Greater Boston requested that the board approve a proclamation and participate in U.N. Day activities for Wednesday, Oct. 24. The date marks the 67th anniversary of when the United Nations Charter went into effect. As part of the proclamation, the town of Norton would then fly the U.N. flag, encourage model U.N. simulations at schools and have a display at the library. Northeastern to Keep Housing for Homeless in Former YMCA Building on …

In the new 17-story Northeastern dormitory set for construction on Huntington Avenue, 67 units that were part of a long-time transitional program for the homeless will be preserved, the university and the city of Boston announced last week. In July, Northeastern University purchased 320 Huntington Avenue from the Greater Boston YMCA for $21 million. Recovery program keeps beds in YMCA hall sold to Northeastern University

In the latest development of Northeastern University’s transformation of the Greater Boston YMCA, Northeastern and the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance have agreed to reserve 67 units of the YMCA’s Hasting Wing, recently sold to the university, for low-income Bostonians.Northeastern University recently purchased the Hastings wing of the Boston YMCA on Huntington Avenue and plans to allocate some beds for the Cardinal Medeiros program.
