Y open house honors public safety personnel

The North Suburban YMCA, along with the YMCA of Greater Boston, is saying thank you to fire, police and emergency medical technicians with an Open House through July 31. Additionally, if any emergency service personnel choose to join the Y during Open House week, the joiner fee will be waived ($25-$50 savings). Storms Move Into Mass., Greater Boston

BOSTON — Strong storms moving into the Boston area have prompted two kinds of alerts Tuesday afternoon. Meteorologist Alan Dunham with the National Weather Service says a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Worcester, Norfolk and Middlesex counties. “People in the warning area, if they see a storm coming, they should seek shelter immediately,” Dunham said. “These storms have a history of three-quarter-inch hail and frequent lightning.” A severe thunderstorm watch — a lower level alert — is in effect until 8 p.m. Continue reading >>>
