Silver Lake towns come together to ‘Strike Out Breast Cancer’

Young baseball and softball players from all over the Silver Lake school district came together on Good Friday to help “Strike Out Breast Cancer.” The second annual event, held at the Pottle Street Fields in Kingston, was put together by the Kingston Youth Baseball and Softball League and the Bay State Bulldogs AAU baseball team. Last year campers were asked to bring canned goods to the training session. The people responded with more than 3,000 cans that were donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank. 1895: The Federation of Jewish Charities of Boston is established April 25. It soon renames itself Federated Jewish Charities to indicate a broader mission, then switches to Associated Jewish Philanthropies in 1930, and becomes Combined Jewish Philanthropies in 1960.
