Wynn Wins: MGC Awards Casino License to Wynn Resorts on Tuesday

Residents celebrate the Mass. Gaming commission’s awarding of the casino license to Wynn Resorts Tuesday in Everett Square. It came down to risky versus safe, and in the end the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) chose the riskier bet in awarding the Greater Boston resort casino license to Wynn Resorts on Tuesday afternoon. The vote ended up 3-1 to give it to Wynn, mostly based on jobs numbers and economic development benefits. Those voting for the Wynn project were Gayle Cameron, Enrique Zuniga and Bruce Stebbins. Commissioner Jim McHugh voted against Wynn, saying he saw too many risks Continue reading >>>

After casino license victory, Steve Wynn takes conciliatory tone

Steve Wynn swears: His first reaction upon winning the Greater Boston casino license was a pang of sympathy for the company he had beaten, Mohegan Sun. “We’re going to take their best customers,” said Wynn, the billionaire developer and chairman of Wynn Resorts, which last Tuesday won the state’s most coveted casino license over an entry from the Connecticut casino company. “It was a tough day for them; they needed this deal very badly.” Continue reading below Wynn is already turning his attention to luring those customers, by preparing for construction of his $1.6 billion gambling Continue reading >>>

Logan Upgrading Terminal To Fit New Jumbo Jet

BOSTON (AP) — Logan International Airport in Boston is changing its international terminal to better accommodate the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger jet. Massport recently approved a $30 million upgrade of Terminal E. Officials say the project includes a reconfiguration of three gates to allow for new jet bridges and additional departure level holding rooms and deplaning areas. Several international carriers that service the airport are using the A380. Aircraft taxi lanes also will be modified to fit the aircraft, which is about 79 feet high and 262 feet wide. By contrast, Continue reading >>>

Neighboring cities wary of Everett casino traffic

The state’s decision to award Wynn Resorts a license to build a $1.6 billion casino in Everett is drawing sharply different reactions from the leaders of nearby cities, with potential effects on traffic a key focus of discussion. The state Gaming Commission on Tuesday ended the high stakes tug-of-war for the one Greater Boston casino license by choosing Nevada-based Wynn Resorts over Mohegan Sun, which proposed a casino on the Revere side of the Suffolk Downs racetrack. From Here to Eternity: The Massachusetts Casino Journey

The Wynn Resorts casino proposal in Everett is the most recent to win a license from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. (Image: Wynn Resorts Holdings) Massachusetts casino licensing law is back in the news in a big way this week, as the Wynn Everett project won the Greater Boston casino license after a contentious battle against a Mohegan Sun proposal. That decision, which was reached by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission in a 3-1 vote, sets the stage for Steve Wynn to build his large resort in Everett, on the site of a former Monsanto plant on the outskirts of Boston. But it’s also the Continue reading >>>

TitleCase Sullivan Sq. Solution Was Key: for Wynn Getting Casino License

It came down to risky versus safe, and in the end the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) chose the riskier bet in awarding the Greater Boston resort casino license to Wynn Resorts on Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the decision, oddly enough, the focal point of the entire process came down to Charlestown – specifically if Wynn would commit enough resources and elbow grease to revamp Sullivan Square. The vote ended up 3-1 to give it to Wynn, mostly based on jobs numbers and economic development benefits, but it didn’t come until after a lengthy discourse over several days about how Charlestown Continue reading >>>

Review: D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die (Prologue, Episodes 1 & 2)

Note: Because D4 is an episodic title, plot spoilers will inevitably arise. Nailing oddity is a finicky prospect. If one is trying to make a strange game, there has to be some semblance of logic involved, otherwise the final product ends up being totally incoherent. If a developer can firmly balance being weird and being gripping, there’s a chance something special could be in the works. Enter D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, the latest project from the mad mind of Swery, the director of Deadly Premonition. Though some control-scheme oddities occasionally get in the way, it manages to find Continue reading >>>

Summer’s Comeback – WHDH

The weekend is here, and I promise not to whine about the lack of rain. (But we do need it.) After a chilly, dry day, night settles in and the cool air will start to pool around New England. Another night of snow making in the mountains? Perhaps (see photo from Sunday River to the right.) In some respects - along the coast and throughout Greater Boston - it will be colder tonight than last night thanks to a lighter wind and a sharper temperature drop this evening.I like the look of the weekend overall. Sunday's warmer than Saturday, and sunny skies will be hindered by some clouds both days. I'm Continue reading >>>

Chamber eyes innovator

Expect big changes, including strengthening the connection with innovation businesses, once the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce finds a new leader, said the head of the search committee looking for a replacement for retiring President Paul Guzzi.“We’re not going to be able to find another Paul Guzzi,” said Chamber Chairman John Fish, the CEO of Suffolk Construction. “What we need is to find someone different from Paul that represents where the puck is going in our community, not where it is today.”Fish said the innovation economy is one of the Chamber’s priorities for the years ahead, Continue reading >>>
