On meeting her heroes:
“I sat in on Prince’s soundtrack when he starred on SNL. He walked over to me after he’d done. My musician friend and lifelong Prince fan Amy Miles burst into tears. I turned to Prince and awkwardly said to him, “ How was your summer?”
On ageing:
“Fighting aging is like the War on Drugs. It’s expensive, does more harm than good, and has been proven to never end.”
“Stop whining about getting old. It’s a privilege. A lot of people who are dead wish they were still alive.”

On choosing the title for her book:
“Yes please sounds powerful and concise. It’s a response and a request. It’s not about being a good girl; it’s about being a real woman. It’s also a title I can tell my kids. I like it when they say ‘Yes Please’ because most people are rude and nice manners are the secret keys to the universe.”
On telling thoughts of bad body image to do one:
“The voice that talks so badly to you is the demon voice. Think Darth Vader or an angry Lauren Bacall. When the demon starts to slither my way and say bad shit about me I turn around and say, ‘Hey. Cool it. Amy is my friend. Don’t talk about her like that.’ Sticking up for ourselves in the same way we would one of our friends is a hard but satisfying thing to do. Sometimes it works. Even demons gotta sleep.”
On appreciating what you’ve got:
“ Decide what your currency is early. Let go of what you will never have. People who do this are happier and sexier.”
On sex:
“God punished us with the gift of being able to fake it. Show God who the real boss is by getting off and getting yours.”
On enjoying yourself:
“Nobody looks stupid when they are having FUN.”
