No one has won the quickly soaring national Powerball jackpot, but a few smaller winners — including one lucky Bostonian — have netted smaller prizes.
One such winner scored a $1 million payout from a ticket bought at the Clarendon Wine Co., according to lottery officials. That was just a slice of what they could have won: the top prize for the latest drawing was just shy of $948 million.

The prize for the next drawing on Wednesday is set to reach an estimated $1.3 billion, the biggest ever.
Proceeds from those $2 tickets, a soon-to-be gateway for one winner to enormous riches, are also flowing into Massachusetts’ coffers.
By Friday, the day before the latest drawing, Lottery officials told the State House News Service that Powerball sales had netted the state about $12.6 million in local aid since the game crowned its last winner on Nov. 4.

A Lottery official told the News Service that once December revenue numbers are finalized, the month is expected to show an increase over December 2014, and January’s revenue total will likely reflect a “considerable increase” over January 2015 as a result of the record jackpot.
For every dollar of Powerball sales, 50 cents is put back into the prize pool, 42 cents is returned to the state, 6 cents is used to pay sales commissions and bonuses, and 2 cents covers administrative costs associated with the game, according to the Lottery.
