Jim Richardson in Barking Mad wins Farr 40 class at Key West 2012 sailing regatta

KEY WEST, Fla. — Barking Mad, skippered by Bostonian Jim Richardson, has won the Farr 40 class at the Key West 2012 sailing regatta. Regatta organizers are calling Richardson's victory on Friday one of the greatest comebacks in the five-day regatta's 25-year history. Richardson and his crew did not finish Monday's second race after a crewmember fell overboard. The DNF normally proves fatal, but Richardson's team kept plugging away and won three of the final five races to pull out a one-point victory over Enfant Terrible, skippered by Italian sailor Rossi Alberto. Row Across the Atlantic? Anything for the Veterans.

What was your New Year’s resolution? You know, that thing that you said you’d do ages ago that now seems like a faint sheen atop an oil barrel of “I’ll do it next year.” Yeah, that’s the one. ‘Being Human’ Season One Recap

A vampire who refuses his natural urge to feed on humans. A werewolf shunning his animal side and alienating himself from his family. Though the supernatural is a key ingredient to the show’s drive, the overall theme of season one is about fitting in a society when there’s no true place for you. It’s a long and arduous journey and, despite it being beings of the supernatural Continue reading >>>

Letters to the Globe Magazine

Top spot Nice job picking US Attorney Carmen Ortiz as Bostonian of the Year (January 1). Ortiz shows tremendous passion for the victims of crime. I met her while providing pro bono public relations services to the Florence Crittenton League of Lowell adoption agency, which had fallen prey to a nearly $640,000 embezzlement. Prior to the plea hearing in which the bookkeeper would admit her guilt, Ortiz met with many of the agency’s families, donors, and volunteers. They were devastated and felt betrayed by a woman they had trusted and who had been a part of the adoption Continue reading >>>
