Stars must shine brightly – Boston Herald

NEW YORK — Having a Merry Christmas will entail a relatively brief exercise for the Celtics [team stats] today. The questions will be short and pointed as they meet the Knicks in a game for which neither team is truly prepared. When trying to figure whether the Bostonian basketeers will have a happy new year, however, the issues are deeper. The questions are many. Are the Celtics tall enough? Can Jermaine O’Neal hold up for a full season? Can Brandon Bass and Chris Wilcox, eight NBA stops between them, step into critical roles off the bench? Is Keyon Dooling, now with his sixth team, the answer Continue reading >>>

5 Things Declan Porter Should Have Done With His $30K From Victoria Grayson

Our favorite Bostonian and his floppy hair just came into some major dolla dolla billz, ya’ll. After conning Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) into giving him a $30k payoff in exchange for breaking up with Charlotte (Christa Allen), Declan (Connor Paolo) tore up the check in a fit of manly angst – but let’s take a second to pretend he’s still a few thousand flush. What should have Declan done with his payout (aside from getting an expensive haircut to save those limp locks of love)? 1. Get a Dialect Coach Not to be awkward, but Declan is working a full-blown Boston accent and everyone else just Continue reading >>>

Coyotes set to honor Tkachuk on Friday night

Shane Doan has been captain of the Phoenix Coyotes for eight years, longer than anyone in franchise history. But ask him about "Captain Coyote," and Doan will start talking about Keith Tkachuk. Mark Messier, Steve Yzerman, Ray Bourque and Bobby Clarke are on the short list of the NHL's most revered captains, but no one enjoyed wearing the "C" more than Tkachuk – the brash Bostonian bull in a china shop who played hockey with the same approach. There were few filters -- and no excuses. What you saw was what you got -- and what the Coyotes got was one of the best power forwards of his era and a Continue reading >>>

Greater Boston market a pressure cooker?

Check out this comment from Bynxers. I snagged it off the message board on Rona's great post the other day on how housing has gotten even less affordable here in the Boston area, despite the downturn. For the good of the message board; I may as well note that as a non-native Bostonian/ Eastern Mass Resident- it must be a cultural and regional difference that I am just not picking up or too stubborn to embrace... I am the lone member of my group of friends from high school that does NOT own a home. Granted, many of them stayed in our idyllic exurb of Central-Southeastern Pennsylvania with the Continue reading >>>

In her younger years, she enjoyed riding on her husband’s Harley-Davidson. Wife of the late Roy E. Continue reading >>>

Sutherland: Warren’s Massachusetts roots deep enough

Re: “Warren lacks roots in Massachusetts” (letter, Dec. 13) Elizabeth Warren lives in Cambridge and has been a resident of Massachusetts for almost 20 years. She is married to a local Bostonian with strong roots in Massachusetts. She has taught at Harvard for two decades. The Boston Globe named her in 2009 “Bostonian of the year” and The Woman’s Bar of Massachusetts honored her. To call her a carpet bagger is unfair and disingenuous. What is the criteria for being able to run for office in Massachusetts? Must you be born here? How about this for an idea: let’s vote for the person Continue reading >>>

Beso: Nothing Beats That First Kiss

Edwin Drakes has a piece of advice for first-time restaurant owners: Follow your heart, but also, hire a consultant. Luckily, the native Bostonian took his own advice with his new Latin-American restaurant, Beso, located at 370 Lewis Avenue, in Bed-Stuy, which will celebrate its grand opening in January 2012. Edwin’s wife Donna is co-owner of Beso, which means "kiss," in Spanish, a name she chose to evoke an invitation for love. However, coming up with a catchy name was the easy part: This is the first restaurant venture for the husband-and-wife team, so during the early stages of the restaurant’s Continue reading >>>
