Referendums held on issues from affordable housing to solar energy

Newton voters think that they should have veto power over the sale of city-owned land, and that local communities should have more say on affordable housing projects, according to the results of two nonbinding Election Day ballot questions. In other communities across Greater Boston, voters registered their nonbinding support for legalizing marijuana, putting more controls on nonhospital abortion providers, and requiring municipal utilities to adopt fair policies for homeowners who install solar panels. Tuesday, November 18: Fall Feast

Time to put on the feedbag – and take some notes. We’ll also grab some enchiladas and guacamole (tableside, of course), order up a hanger steak, and chow down on something new to us, an aqua pizza.

Emily’s List: The Banned In Boston Edition

The sleepy town of Westminster, Massachusetts made waves this week when it proposed a ban on the sale of tobacco products, including cigarettes. That got Greater Boston host Emily Rooney thinking: what else needs to be banned in Boston? She joined Jim Braude and Margery Eagan this week for another installment of her weekly list of obsessions and observations, "Emily's List," and gave us her thumbs-up or thumbs-down on some of the most notorious bans in the area. Cigarettes sales: thumbs-up. "Until tobacco is illegal, you got to be able to sell it," Emily said. Plastic Continue reading >>>

We’re calling it a version of my weekly radio segment known as "Emily’s List." Stephen Freyer goes way back with me. I was news director at Channel 5 in the early 1990s, and he was representing several of our sportscasters, including Mike Lynch. Now he's the president of Freyer Management Associates, which represents media personalities and professional athletes.  Continue reading >>>
