Menino scoffs at Foxboro casino plan

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino cautioned spectators to wait for the review on the casino play between Patriots [team stats] owner Robert Kraft and Las Vegas mogul Steve Wynn. “It’s not Bob Kraft making the decision,” Menino said after a speech this morning to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. “It’s a five-member panel commission the decision.” Menino told reporters people are jumping to conclusions about who will win the three casino licenses. Suffolk Downs, which Menino favors, was thought to be a lock with its casino plan with Caesars Entertainment — before Kraft and Wynn announced Continue reading >>>

Can’t stop the Bruins

I don’t write much about the Bruins in this space, and believe me, that’s probably for the better. While I obviously have nothing against the B’s, truth is I know next to nothing about hockey. I wasn’t brought up on the game; I never played. Between my 12th and 30th birthdays the B’s advanced passed the second round of the playoffs exactly zero times. Frustrated by $528 million in stalled projects along the East Boston waterfront, Mayor Thomas M. Menino today is set to unveil a major plan to jumpstart development in the neighborhood that continues his focus on maximizing property use along the harbor. The mayor will unveil a plan at a Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce breakfast today that calls for the city to use “district improvement financing” in East Boston — a mechanism that will help fund infrastructure, “reduce barriers to development” and, it is hoped, restart several dormant projects. “There are a number of projects in Continue reading >>>
