Boston Weather Forecast: Dry air to greatly diminish snow totals

The National Weather Service has significantly decreased the amount of snow previously forecast for this particular storm. Dry air in place over the area will cause most of the moisture to dissipate before ever reaching the ground. Look for just an inch or so in the Greater Boston area with perhaps 2-4 inches on the south coast. Winter weather warnings are goin up for the Cape. 2-4 is more likely from the Cape Cod Canal to Hyannis and Chatham and less than that from Eastham to Provincetown. Stay prepared for more bitter cold and perhaps another storm at the end of the week. Today: Scattered Continue reading >>>

Irish Catholics, antigay bias do not go hand in hand

RE “WALSH pushes for gay groups in parade” (Page A1, Feb. 27): As the granddaughter of a former state representative from South Boston, I am disappointed at the bigotry that continues to scar the neighborhood. I have to point out that Irish Catholics in Greater Boston, in contrast to suggestions made in the article, have long embraced our gay sisters, brothers, cousins, friends and co-workers. The implication that the Irish community is biased against gays is simply not reflective of the greater group. Too bad a guy who goes by the name of “Wacko” is portrayed as the face of the Irish-American Continue reading >>>

NEW RESOURCES REPLACE ISIS PARENTING

Arlene Smith, coordinator of the Watertown Family Network, an organization that offers free support for parents, said parents should remember that there are more than 40 other family networks throughout the state that support parents. “People underestimate how hard it is to become a parent,” former Isis employee Dawn Ellis said. “Becoming a parent is a humongous rite of passage, especially for a woman. It changes a person’s life. I think it’s important for people to be able to go somewhere they can honestly say, ‘This is hard,’ and everyone knows you are still a good mom.” Pictured: Continue reading >>>

Mentally Tough Middlebrooks Looks To Rebound From Sophomore Slump

BOSTON (CBS) - Anybody with a television set in the Greater Boston area knew that Will Middlebrooks was struggling at the plate last summer. For the first three months of the 2013 campaign, it seemed like his somebody had dropped a piece of Kryptonite in “The Next Big Thing’s” Red Sock. However the power-hitting righty’s poor performance in the batter’s box was good for something, it gave him a whole new perspective on playing in the Major League. In his rookie season, Middlebrooks had been the toast of the town. The young prospect had boomed 15 homers and racked up 54 RBIs in Continue reading >>>
