This story first appeared in the Nov. 18 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Andy Rooney delivered his first 60 Minutes commentary on July 2, 1978, railing against the media tradition of tallying highway deaths during holiday weekends. But Rooney, who died Nov. 4 at 92 of complications following surgery, worked at CBS for nearly 60 years and spent 30 years of his career behind the camera. He always considered himself a writer first. Rooney grew up in Albany, N.Y., was drafted into the Army in 1941 and won a Bronze Star for his reporting under fire at the Battle of Saint-Lo. Soldier’s a work of art in MFA uniform exhibit

More than 60 years after World War II veteran Arthur Fishtine returned home from fighting in Europe, the 87-year-old can still fit into his Class A Army uniform. He’s proud of that fact — even if the uniform is “very tight” — but prouder still that the dress suiting has found a permanent home at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where it is currently on display as part of “Beauty as Duty: Textiles on the Home Front in WWII Britain.” The exhibit features British propaganda scarves and flags from museum benefactors Frederic and Jean Sharf. West Roxbury Friends of Rosie’s Place holds Harvest Brunch

Carol Nesson, president of the West Roxbury Friends of Rosie's Place, admitted at the charity's Harvest Brunch on Sunday that the food drive and fundraising initiative often relies on major donations. "At our last event we got a donation — a check for five bucks — that was written in spidery, old lady handwriting," she said. Also tucked inside the envelope, Nesson added, were three pennies — the absolute most the donor could afford to contribute. "This woman gave us her last 3 cents," Continue reading >>>
