Keller @ Large: Boston 2024 Olympics A Better Story Than DeflateGate

BOSTON (CBS) – Why do we love the unfolding saga of the Boston Summer Olympics bid? Let us count the ways. First of all, it’s a soap opera, with all the necessary ingredients for vintage Bostonian melodrama. Read: Boston 2024 Olympics Coverage You’ve got the downtown crowd, titans of industry and finance, big-name architects, an occasional academic thrown in to add gravitas. Because they have money but don’t play a sport we like, they are cast as villains, we’re not sure why but will figure it out later. Cheers from London

I feel like one of those "long time listener, first time caller" folks you always hear on radio talk shows. I'm a Bostonian, though currently living in London. I miss the great access to my stateside favorites, but am enjoying the abundance of selections I have from all over the UK and Europe over here. Can't spend less than an hour per visit in my favorite bottle shop - probably because I have to come here to read reviews for each new beer I take a look at in the store. There are very few ways that end a night better than a great brew. After lurking for years I finally decided to Continue reading >>>

Video: The Irish Have Taken Over Boston Judging By The Latest UFC Embedded

‘Is this going to be on Embedded?’ Yes it is Mr. Wooly Jumper with an accent that’s not exactly Bostonian. Some of this week’s UFC Embedded episodes have been very interesting and this one is no different. They’re trying to expand the scope to include some of the other fighters, particularly Cerrone and Henderson but they’re finding it difficult.

Boston has long been an Irish stronghold and this week that’s been ratcheted up about 20 notches if this is anything to go by.

A Faneuil Hall for Bostonians

In the summer of 1995, Ben Thompson, the architect responsible for transforming the run-down and neglected Faneuil Hall Marketplace — including what is now known as Quincy Market — traveled across the Charles River from Cambridge to visit the iconic site, one of his signature projects. He was less than pleased at what he found. Commenting on the retail milieu, Thompson noted, “There’s been a shift from local business to national chains and tourist shops.” Adding some remarks on the Disneyification around the entire landscape, he wrote wistfully, “People Continue reading >>>

KnowTechie teams up with WeWork to feature Boston startups

Being a Bostonian and all, I’ve been slacking at keeping up with all of the amazing startups coming out of Boston. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been covering Boston tech news since the launch of KnowTechie, but unfortunately not as often as I’d originally planned. In the early days of KT, I broke an exclusive story on Google. I’ve had a one-on-one interview with the CEO of FanCred. I’ve featured news from Uber, Postmates, Drizly, and countless others. Although featuring some of these bigger names is fun and all, I want to take it one step further. I want to feature startups that Continue reading >>>

Meet the UFC Fighter Who Broke Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s Nose

Boston.com chatted with UFC welterweight John “Doomsday” Howard, a lifelong Bostonian who’s set to make his return to the Octagon when the UFC takes over the TD Garden on Sunday night. During the UFC’s last trip to Boston in 2013, Howard upset “The Ultimate Fighter” season 17 finalist Uriah Hall with a unanimous decision victory in front of the hometown crowd. The win was an emotional one, as it came just months after the Boston Marathon bombings. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the accused bombers, was a successful amateur boxer who trained at Howard’s gym in Allston. When he asked Continue reading >>>

Matt LeBlanc Remains a Typical Bostonian, Tells British Royals to ‘F*ck Off’

What a guy. On Tuesday night’s Conan, our favorite Newton guy Matt LeBlanc discussed one his recent visits to London, where he was invited to a polo match and to meet the royals. An exciting moment for anyone who likes arbitrary facets in pop culture, so LeBlanc was not thrilled when all Prince Harry and Prince William asked was, “When’s the Friends reunion?” “What’d you tell ‘em?” Conan asked. “I told ‘em to fuck off,” LeBlanc said, almost too quickly. Clearly a joke, everybody laughed, but we know he was really thinking it. Another highlight was Continue reading >>>

Pallotta: ‘Strootman and Pjanic stay’

Roma President James Pallotta told clubs to forget about Kevin Strootman and Miralem Pjanic, then continued the Lazio feud. The Bostonian spoke to the Bleacher Report in an exclusive interview, covering issues such as transfer speculation, the Champions League debacle with Bayern Munich and plans for the new stadium. He also discussed the on-going transfer speculation in Britain about Manchester United trying to sign Dutch international Strootman. “I do get annoyed. I think the papers have finally given up on the Strootman thing, Continue reading >>>
