Mobile payments technology has made it easier to purchase everything from movies to furniture with the tap of a mobile app. Now it’s making a particularly distasteful transaction just a bit more convenient: paying your parking tickets. The city of Boston is partnering with local startup TicketZen to offer a mobile option to pay parking fines as soon as you get them. Every Boston-issued ticket will come with a barcode that can be scanned into TicketZen’s iOS or Android app via a smartphone’s camera. The app will then pull up a digital copy of the ticket, which you can pay by entering your Continue reading >>>

A locally eatery's crab-themed Christmas tree reigned victorious in the first-ever Christmas Tree Wars. Big Mike's Crabhouse Grill built its tree out of wooden crab bushel baskets. Employees decorated it with bright lights and garland before topping it off with a red lit crab. "It was really a team effort," said Josh Clemens, general manager of Big Mike's. "Everybody kind of had an idea and we just went with it." A panel of six Hanover-area judges selected the tree, which took a week to complete, as the winner in the Best All Around category, according to a news release from Main Street Hanover. From Boston to Paris: The struggle to move forward after a senseless tragedy

The events in France this week are all too familiar. They have left me, a Bostonian, heartsick, thinking about the people who were killed in the name of a religion that does not support killing the way these terrorists believed. I wanted to focus on the victims, but I couldn't stop thinking about how the attack wasn't over. The gunmen were on the loose, and it seemed nobody knew how many were involved or where they had gone. The Evolution of the American Christmas Card

Christmas cards didn’t always have awkward family photos of your neighbors in matching sweaters. They didn’t always flood your inbox with animated prancing reindeer. They didn’t always depict wintery wonderlands with holiday greetings. Louis Prang, the Bostonian who brought Christmas cards to the U.S. in 1874, had a different idea of seasons greeting that has been transformed by societal and technological norms through the years. And now with these advancements, we can “Elf” ourselves. Somehow compared to the nostalgic cards of the past, this seems less than appealing. Sir Henry Continue reading >>>
