Cahill pleads not guilty to corruption charges, Sept. trial date set

Former Treasurer Tim Cahill pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning in Superior Court to four public corruption charges leveled against him earlier this week by Attorney General Martha Coakley and his trial date was set for Sept. 24.  Cahill is accused with two aides in connection with the launch a $1.5 million Lottery ad campaign in September 2010 that investigators say were intended to boost his campaign for governor.   Cahill has indicated the ads were intended to counter Republican Governors Association ads questioning his management of the Lottery and to maximize agency profits, which Continue reading >>>

Nix’s Mate restaurant opening in Financial District

New England-inspired restaurant Nix’s Mate is about to land on Broad Street in the Hub’s Financial District this month. The restaurant, which occupies the former space of Caliterra, boasts a 22-seat bar and 30-seat lounge area, expansive dining room holding up to 80 patrons, and both semi-private and private rooms. CHART: Where Does the South End Go For Coffee?

Greater Boston is a coffee-mad area, with chain and local coffee shops seemingly on every corner. There are plenty of great locally owned choices in each city and town, but to measure the relative amount of coffee in our blood streams, Patch looked at the area's two biggest players: Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. It’s not surprising Dunkin Donuts controls more locations in the 18 communities surveyed, but did you know they outpace Starbucks by an almost 3:1 ratio? White House to honor Dorchester Youth Collaborative founder

The White House plans on Wednesday to honor Emmett Folgert, the founder and executive director of the Dorchester Youth Collaborative, for his anti-youth violence work. Folgert is one of twelve people the Obama administration intends to recognize as part of the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention.
